- Narada said: There is a great offense committed when you (the hunter) kill an animal completely, but the offense is much greater when you half-kill it. Indeed, the pain which you give half-dead animals will have to be accepted by you in a future birth
- Narada then revived the half-dead animals, and, getting freed from their dreadful condition, they fled away. Upon seeing Narada execute this miracle, the black hunter was struck with wonder

- Nature gives us this human form of body, intelligence, that if there is danger, if there is anxiety, he tries to get out of it. The animals also do, but they cannot do very nicely
- Near Vrndavana is Govardhana Hill, which is very beautiful, and there are newly grown grass and fodder for the animals, so there will be no difficulty in living there
- New men may not always behave so nicely but we must be tolerant. To train a new man is like training a wild animal to be a pet
- Nitai Pada Kamala, 1968 part two - They (human animals) have become maddened by a false concept of the bodily life. Ahankare matta hoiya, nitai-pada pasariya: And for this reason they have completely forgotten their eternal relationship with Nityananda
- No animal could be killed except in sacrifice, as prescribed. Unnecessarily there was no need of killing animals. That is great sin
- No argument that "Such stool is impure. Even my spiritual master's stool is also impure. How is that that animal cow dung is pure?" But because it is in the Vedas it is said pure, you have to accept
- No learned man takes serious consideration of the body. Therefore in the Vedic literature it is said that "One who is in the bodily concept of life, he is nothing more than an animal"
- No one can check the progess of time. As an animal tamer tames animals according to his will, time also adjusts things according to its own will. No one can supersede the arrangement made by supreme time
- No one in contact with material nature can be beyond these six laws of transformation; therefore no one-whether demigod, man, animal or plant-can survive forever in the material world
- Nobody dies of starvation. That is a false theory. Have you seen any animal dying of starvation? Have you got any experience? Have you seen any bird died of starvation? There is no question of starvation in the kingdom of God
- Nobody is dying out of starvation, nobody, not even an animal, not even a bird dying of starvation, not a beast. God is supplying everyone's food. Eko bahunam vidadhati kaman (Katha Upanisad 2.2.13). He is supplying food to the elephant
- Non vegetarian diet (the eating of meat, fish eggs, and all animal foods strictly forbidden). Intoxication of all sorts (including smoking, drinking of alcoholic beverages, drinking tea, coffee, drugs, etc.) are strictly forbidden

- Not only you, but the animals, the trees, the plants, the insects, the serpent, the aquatics, the fish - everyone the son of Krsna. This is daivi sampat

- Now I will eat two pieces of bread at night, and my wife will kick on my face." (laughter) Just see the ass. Therefore how Bhagavata has selected the specific animals, how they are suffering, very instructive
- Now King Bharata considers his meditation false. While engaged in meditation, he was actually thinking of his deer, and he would feel great pleasure when the animal pricked him with the points of its horns
- Now saintly persons have no such power due to the influence of the age of Kali. Indeed, the brahmanas do not even have the power to perform sacrifices in which animals are put into a fire to attain a new life
- Now the Supreme Personality of Godhead has killed him just as if the demon were an animal. Unto that supreme pastime form of Lord Nrsimhadeva, we eternally offer our respectful obeisances
- Now they are imitating animals, becoming naked. That is they, that is their advancement of civilization, to become naked, nudist. So actually decline, from human life they are decline to animal life
- Nowadays, even they do not care for dharma. They're animals. Really human life begins when they take to religious principle
- Nrsimhadeva's fierce appearance was certainly most dangerous for the nondevotees, but for Prahlada Maharaja such a fearful appearance was not at all disturbing. The lion is very fearsome for other animals, but its cubs are not at all afraid of the lion
O
- O Bhimasena, tiger amongst men, now useful animals like cows are passing me (Yudhisthira Maharaja) on my left side, and lower animals like the asses are circumambulating me. My horses appear to weep upon seeing me
- O my Lord, by Your own will You appear in the various species of living entities, among animals lower than human beings as well as among the demigods, to perform Your transcendental pastimes
- Of all kinds of animal killing, the killing of cows is most vicious because the cow gives us all kinds of pleasure by supplying milk. Cow slaughter is an act of the grossest type of ignorance. BG 1972 purports

- Of course, the word catus-pada refers to quadrupeds, or animals

- On his entering the ocean, the aquatic animals who formed the host of Varuna were stricken with fear and ran far away. Thus Hiranyaksa showed his splendor without dealing a blow
- On His way to Vrndavana, Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu passed through the forest of Jharikhanda and made all the tigers, elephants, deer and birds chant the Hare Krsna maha-mantra and dance. Thus all these animals were overwhelmed by ecstatic love

- On the other hand, those who are engaged in impious activities are degraded and take birth as animals, trees and plants
- On the platform of ignorance there is no knowledge and no enjoyment, but simply life almost like that of animals
- On the spiritual platform, the learned person not only gives up the duality of man and woman, but also gives up the duality of man and animal. This is the test of self-realization
- On this material planet the trees can produce fruits and flowers according to the order of material energy, but in the Vaikuntha planets the trees, the land, the residents and the animals are all spiritual
- On this platform of bodily concept of life, we remain animal. And to raise from that animal platform to the platform of our spiritual consciousness, that is the business of human life. Athato brahma jijnasa. This is the Vedanta-sutra
- One (a sannyasi) who prefers living in great mountains, even among ferocious animals, to attain the summit of philosophical speculation (understanding that the essence of this material world is useless) is called Parvata

- One animal or lower than human being, they have got one sense very strong. Someone's the ear, someone's the nose, someone's the tongue, someone's the genital, in this way. But they have got one sense strong
- One can learn to earn bread, eat, sleep and mate without a formal education. Animals are not educated - they are not technicians, and they have no university degrees - but they are also eating, sleeping, mating and defending

- One is compared to the lion when one is very strong in chasing an enemy. One should be a lamb at home and a lion in the chase. The lion never fails in the chase of an animal; similarly, the head of the state should never fail in chasing an enemy
- One man's food, another man's poison - That is going on everywhere. But for that reason one cannot accept poison as food. Is it not? Just like stool is food for the pigs. But that does not mean stool is food. It may be food for a certain class of animal
- One may be a human being, a demigod or an animal, tree or plant, but everything is controlled by the laws of nature, and behind this natural control is the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- One may be a man, an animal or even a tree, but the Lord (Krsna) is kind to everyone. That is God’s qualification. He also says in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.29), samo ’ham sarva-bhutesu: I am equally kind to everyone

- One of these (prescribed rules and regulations) states that they (men) should never trouble any animal, even those that disturb human beings
- One should endeavor to go back home, back to Godhead. Otherwise there is no difference between human life and the lives of jungle animals and birds. Animals and birds also have freedom, but because of their lower birth, they cannot use it
- One should not at any time associate with a coarse fool who is bereft of the knowledge of self-realization and who is no more than a toy animal in the hands of a woman
- One should not mistake the appearance of the Lord as a human being or a beast to be the same as the birth of an ordinary conditioned soul, who is forced to appear by the laws of nature, whether as an animal, as a human being or as a demigod
- One should surrender to the Lord as much as an animal purchased from the market surrenders to its master. Such an animal never thinks of his maintenance because he knows that his master will look after him
- One should take serious note of this incident (Brahma was sexually inclined to his own daughter). The human being is a social animal, and his unrestricted mixing with the fair sex leads to downfall
- One should treat animals such as deer, camels, asses, monkeys, mice, snakes, birds and flies exactly like one's own son. How little difference there actually is between children and these innocent animals
- One who accepts this body as the self is in the line of the animals. The animals . . . the dogs are thinking, "I am dog," and he's barking. So similarly, if I think, "I am Indian," "I am American," where is the difference between the dog and me?

- One who is not God-conscious, one who does not know that he is not body, he is animal. That's all. Maybe in different dress… So you have to set up real human society in a small scale so people will see, "Yes." Because man has got intelligence
- One who is pandita, learned, he does not discriminate between man and animal because they have got different dress
- One who is smaller or weak, he is enjoyed by the stronger. That is the nature, you will find. The goat, the cows, they are animals. We are also animals, or living entity. But those who have got hands, they eat the animals who have no hands
- One who thinks that, "I am this body," he's no better than dog and cat. However nicely dressed he may be, he's a dog, he's a cat. That's all. No more than animal. Because he has no knowledge of his self

- Our actual experience is that every man, animal, bird and beast - indeed, every living entity - is engaged in rendering service
- Our description of healthy life, healthy life is to become God conscious. That is healthy life. Otherwise do you think that an animal like elephant, very strong, does it mean that it is healthy? No
- Our disease is that we have forgotten God. The more we are forgetful about God, the more we are animals. And the more we become advanced in understanding God, Krsna consciousness, then we are human being
- Our eating process is more decent than the animals. We have got nice kitchen. We can prepare varieties of foodstuff by mixing so many eatables. Because we have got intelligence, we can do
- Our material needs are these: the problem of eating, of mating, of sleeping, of defending ourselves and of acquiring sense gratification. These are common both to human beings and to animals
- Our philosophy is that expanded - not only human being but animals also. Our philosophy is, if there is one lizard in your room, I should see that he is not starving. This is our philosophy. Not only human being but animals, even an insect
- Our process is natural process. You love God, and if you are actually expert in loving God, naturally you love everyone. Just like Krsna conscious person, because he loves God, he loves the animals also. He loves birds, beasts, everyone
- Our Society is practically demonstrating that this is the only business, and no other business. We therefore do not try even to earn our livelihood. That is the natural instinct of every animal
- Our vision is of the same mountain, but due to our different positions we see haze, greenery or variegatedness. In the final stage, there are varieties - trees, animals, men, houses, and so on
- Out of many such manlike animals, there is actually a man who knows the responsibility of human life and thus tries to make life perfect by following the prescribed duties
- Out of the varieties of the living entities, the human kind living entities are very small. From sastra, from scripture, we understand that there are 8,400,000 species of life. Out of that, aquatics, water animals or water-living entities, are 900,000
P

- Pasturing ground for the cows - the grass is produced by rains, and the animals, they eat the grass, and they produce milk. You require milk. So everything, the main source of supply is the rainfall from the sky
- People are also characterized in this age as being unfortunate. They have a great deal of difficulty meeting the primary demands of life - eating, defending, mating, and sleeping - necessities which are met even by the animals

- People will be killed and injured, and animals and women will be stolen. And for all these sins we shall be responsible
- Persons who are simply attached to the ritualistic portion of the Vedas and do not understand the situation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are not any more advanced than animals

- Persons who have no discrimination in the matter of foodstuff and who eat all sorts of rubbish are compared to hogs. Hogs are very much attached to eating stools. So stool is a kind of foodstuff for a particular type of animal
- Pious and vicious, these two activities are concern to the human. It is not to the animals. Animals, they are not subjected to the rules and regulations. Just like state law - state laws are meant for human beings, not for the cats and dogs
- Practically everyone is a pasu, an animal, and everyone is attacked by the crocodile of material existence. Not only the King of the elephants (Gajendra) but every one of us is being attacked by the crocodile and is suffering the consequences

R

- Religious means that is the beginning of human life. If one is not religious, then he is animal. Dharmena hinah pasubhih samanah
- Restriction is for human beings, not for animals. We encounter restrictions daily in our common dealings. We cannot drive a car on the left or run a red light without risking apprehension by the law

- Similarly, other animals, such as camels, elephants and asses, as well as infantry soldiers, all fell with severed heads

- Since an animal such as me has surrendered unto You, who are supremely liberated, certainly You will release me from this dangerous position. Indeed, being extremely merciful, You incessantly try to deliver me
- Since animals are also interested in these functions (eating, sleeping, defending and mating), what is the difference between human life and animal life if a human being does not go beyond them
- Since everything is the property of God, and all living entities - not only human beings but even animals, birds, plants and so on - are children of God
- Since people are contaminated by the lower qualities, they will lead their next lives either as animals or in other degraded forms of life

- So far the animals are concerned they are also working. They are also working, but working with the help of the nature. But we go beyond the nature. Because we have got better intelligence, we are not satisfied with the nature's product
- So far we are concerned, Krsna conscious men, we are not animals. We are perfect beings. We don't eat any living entity
- So in the Visnu-rahasya these demigod worshipers are forcefully condemned by the statement that it is better to live with the most dangerous animals than to associate with these persons
- So long one continues this bodily concept of life, he is animal. Either you call I am bhangi, or you call I am brahmana, you are animal. This is the verdict of the sastra
- So long one is in ignorance, the bodily concept of life, he is animal. When one knows that "I am not this body; I am . . . aham brahmasmi," then civilization begins

- So long you are in the bodily concept of life, you are no better than the animal. That is the Bhagavata philosophy. You are animal
- So many scriptures are there, so many teachers are there, so many rules and regulations are there. They are not meant for the animals, because they cannot be purified. They must have to come to this position by evolution of human being

- So their (animals) progress (of life) should not be checked simply to satisfy one's palate. This is called ahimsa
- So these animals, they are passing on as big scientists, philosophers, theologician, and so on, so on. We have to stop them. Na mam duskrtino mudhah prapadyante naradhamah (BG 7.15). This is the qualification of a person who does not accept God
- So this Krsna consciousness means training people for becoming fit to enter into that eternal life, blissful life. That training is meant for human being, not for animals. So you should not misuse this human form of life
- So this Krsna consciousness movement is to save them from this animal consciousness. Krsna consciousness means real consciousness, and without Krsna consciousness, just animals
- So this Krsna consciousness movement means to save them from this animal consciousness. Krsna consciousness means real consciousness, and without Krsna consciousness, just animals
- So, the real explanation is that you take which is offered to Krsna. That is nice philosophy. Killing you have to do, either you kill vegetable or animal, killing you have to do. Therefore our proposition is that you take the prasadam of Krsna
- So-called human civilization has opened many slaughterhouses for animals in the name of religion or food
- So-called humanitarian love means they're loving some human being, but the animals are being killed. Why they do not love the animals? Because imperfect. But the Krsna conscious person will never kill an animal or give trouble to animal even

- Somebody is serving Krsna as animal. Somebody is serving Krsna as fruits and flowers, as tree, as Yamuna water, or the beautiful cowherds men and damsels or Krsna's father, mother, so many with Krsna. Krsna is not imperson. So He has got so many lovers
- Sometimes He leaves instructions like those of Bhagavad-gita. Krsna's incarnation appears everywhere, and He appears among animals, men, sages, and even aquatics (tiryan-naradisu yadahsu (SB 1.2.34)). For example, Krsna even appeared as a fish incarnation
- Sometimes ksatriyas go to the forest to kill animals like deer because they have to learn the art of killing, and sometimes they eat the animals also. Sudras, too, eat animals such as goats
- Sometimes love affairs between two persons culminate in ghastly murder scenes. Such rasas are displayed between man and man and between animal and animal
- Sometimes some animal wants to eat something, another animal wants to eat another thing, but that is pravrtti. Just like the hog: he is satisfied with stool. That is also eatable. And an enlightened human being, he is satisfied with nice halava
- Sometimes the Lord becomes very much tortured Himself when His sons, or may be animals, they are tortured. Otherwise, how He is father of everyone
