- Because I am eternal, I do not want my body be annihilated. But it will be. Therefore I am always fearful, "When it will be annihilated? When it will be annihilated? Is the time come? Is the time come?" This is called bhayam
- Because if you hear from the saintly person and if he is speaking from the experience which he has heard from the, another saintly person - this is called guru-parampara - then the knowledge is perfect
- Because it is the world of duality. There must be something dual, black-white, darkness-light, sukha, happiness-distress, father-son. There must be. This is called relative world

- Devotees take prasadam after offering it to Krsna. That is called sacrifice. Whatever you offer to Krsna or Visnu is called sacrifice
- Devotional service means to accept favorable and reject unfavorable. This is called saranagati
- Dharma means the characteristic, that God has given this law that everyone should die; therefore all living beings' characteristic is that he must die. This is called religion
- Dharma means which cannot be given up. The so-called dharma, or religion . . . suppose I am Hindu and somebody is Christian. This is called faith. The dictionary meaning is, "Religion is faith." So faith can be changed
- Divya-jnana means transcendental knowledge. So divya is di, and jnanam, ksapayati, explaining, that is ksa, di-ksa. This is called diksa, diksa, the combination. So diksa means the initiation to begin transcendental activities. That is called initiation
- Don't take it that I am criticizing you. Just I am analyzing the fact. So this should be utilized. This is called intelligence. This is called jnana. This is called free from bewilderment
- Don't try to make economic development, dharmartha-kama-moksa (SB 4.8.41). Don't try to become a religious person also. Religious person means strictly following the rules and regulation of varnasrama-dharma. That is called religious
- Due to the living entity's ignorance of his eternal blissful life, he becomes attracted to material activities under the spell of maya. In this world, he can never experience happiness, yet he works very hard to do so. This is called maya
- Dvandva means fighting or quarreling. Every one of us has got nature for fighting with others unnecessarily. Even some people come here with a spirit of fighting with me. So this is called dvandva

- Each verse, read every day carefully. Try to assimilate, understand, & you will get more profit, every day 100 yards forward. They are so important verses. How nicely composed by Vyasadeva. In two lines the whole thing is explained. This is called sastra
- Early in the morning, even in chilly cold, they will take bath, taking water from the well. Nature's arrangement is, if you take well water, early in the morning, not very hot, but is warm. You can take very easily your bath. This is called naimitti
- Education of Krsna consciousness should be given from the very childhood, kaumara. Kaumara means from the age of fifth year up to the tenth year. This is called kaumara age
- Enthusiasm does not mean if I attain something immediately the result is immediate. No. The result may be delayed but we should not be disturbed. But we must go on working with enthusiasm. This is called patience
- Even if I get the kingdom of trailokya - svarga, martya, patala, like that - still, I am not prepared to fight with my kinsmen, what to speak of this earthly planet. - He (Arjuna) decided like that. This is called family attachment
- Even if you get more money, the other circumstances will force you to remain in the same condition as you were fifty years ago. Because you are destined. This is called destiny. You cannot change your destiny. That is not possible
- Even if you read some books, you cannot understand unless you understand it from me. This is called parampara system. You cannot jump over to the superior guru, I mean to say, neglecting the next acarya, immediate next acarya
- Even there is no enmity, there are so many living entities, just like bugs, mosquitoes, other animals. They are always prepared to give us trouble. This is called adhibhautika
- Every living entity is by constitutional position an eternal servant of Krsna. As soon as one engages in the service of Lord Vasudeva, he attains his normal constitutional position. This position is called the liberated stage

- Faith means firm conviction that "If I become transcendentally engaged in the service of the Lord, then my life becomes successful." This is called faith. And that conviction must be firm, not tottering faith
- Finish this business, this life. One life let me be strict in following the discipline and regulative principles. - This is called tapasya. So "Although it is inconvenient, I must do it to solve my problems." That is firm determination drdha-vrata
- First a child is shown the branches of a tree, and then he is shown the moon through the branches. This is called sakha-candra-nyaya. The idea is that first one must be given a simpler example. Then the more difficult background is explained
- First of all they were hearing; then they came forward, "Please make me your disciple." That means, "Under your direction my bhajana-kriya will go." This is called bhajana-kriya, under the direction of the spiritual master

- Govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami. These verses, Brahma-samhita, it was composed by Lord Brahma. Therefore in the Vedic literature this is called Samhita. Samhita means part of the Vedic literature

- If you want to see God, Krsna, you cannot see Him. He is not there. He is in Goloka Vrndavana. But His influence is so extensive that even without His personal presence, things are going on so nicely. This is called Bhagavan
- In an exalted status of devotional service, a devotee forgets the position of Krsna and intensely loves the SP of Godhead without understanding His position. This is called kevala-bhakti and is distinct from the stages of jnana and jnanamayi bhakti
- In any condition of life, everyone thinks that he's happy. But actually he does not know what is happiness. This is called maya
- In BG 15.15 Sri Krsna says: "I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness." In the animal form the living entity is completely forgetful of his relationship with God. This is called apohanam, or forgetfulness
- In business you go to a storekeeper. He'll say, "Oh, you are my great friend. I am not taking a farthing profit from you." But you must know that he is taking profit, at least fifty percent. So this is called cheating propensity
- In conditional life the living entity creates a series of bodies one after another, and this is called karma-bandhana
- In India it is still the custom for a daughter to be offered to someone simply by word. This is called vag-datta
- In Nadia, the city where He lived, His position was very respectable, & physically He was very beautiful. Yet He gave up His young, faithful, beautiful wife, His affectionate mother, His position, & everything else. This is called vairagya, renunciation
- In one breathing of Maha-Visnu, you cannot calculate how many Manus are there. This is called unlimited. We say "unlimited," but we should have some knowledge how it is unlimited
- In other words, instead of being the eternal servant of Krsna, he becomes Krsna's competitor. This is called viparyayo smrtih
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, pulaka is described as joy, encouragement and fear. When these combine, the hairs on the body stand on end, and this bodily state is called pulaka
- In the Kali-yuga people will think themselves of very beautiful feature by keeping long hairs. That is stated. This is called sastra. 5000 years ago, Bhagavata was written, & there the symptoms of Kali-yuga are mentioned, and this is one of the symptoms
- In the lower grade or lower species of life, the development of consciousness is so poor that one cannot understand whether he is happy or distressed. This is called avaranatmika
- In the material world we are producing so many things and this is called advancement of civilization, but factually the advancement of civilization is a manifestation of the false ego. By false ego all material things are produced as objects of enjoyment
- In the material world, every living entity has a desire to lord it over the material world as much as possible. This is called pravrtti-marga. All the sastras, however, advise nivrtti-marga, or release from the materialistic way of life
- In the neophyte stage one should always engage in hearing krsna-katha. This is called sravana-dasa, the stage of hearing
- In the Padma Purana it is said that one should always remember Lord Visnu. This is called dhyana, or meditation - always remembering Krsna
- In the process of glorifying the Lord there should be no restriction of time and space. This is called sanatana-dharma or bhagavata-dharma
- In the spiritual world, if we take a mango from a tree and at the same time desire grapes, the tree will supply them. This is called a "desire tree." These are some of the actualities of the spiritual world
- In these days they cannot understand that "This material body is a foreign element, and somehow or other I am victimized, I am entrapped within this body." This problem is real problem. But they do not know. And this is called avidya, ignorance
- In this age, Kali-yuga, the age of quarrel and fight and misunderstanding - this is called Kali-yuga - in this age this is the only means - hari-kirtanat. The sankirtana movement is hari-kirtana
- In this way (by thinking of Krsna), at the end of life, one may be transferred to the association of Krsna. This is technically called nitya-lila-pravista, entering into the planet Goloka Vrndavana
- In this way (satisfying Krsna's senses) our senses are spiritualized, and this is called adhyatmika-yoga or bhakti-yoga. This is the yoga that Lord Kapiladeva is herein expounding
- It is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya. Vrscika means scorpion, and tandula means rice. So "Life is coming from matter" - this is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya

- Jnana-yajna, this philosophical discussion, logical discussion of the aim of life from authorized books like Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, if we have discussion, this is called jnanamaya-yajna, with knowledge
- Just as a dog wanders here and there for a piece of bread or punishment, the living entity perpetually wanders about trying to be happy and planning in so many ways to counteract material misery. This is called the struggle for existence
- Just knowing "I am not this body but am spirit soul" is not sufficient. We have to escape this entanglement of material nature. This is called mukti, liberation
- Just like I am in distressed condition, puzzled, I take some intoxication. This is called happiness. I remain in the same condition. After my intoxication is over, I come back again into the same condition
- Just like there are mosquitoes, there are flies, there are birds, there are other animals, or other enemies in the human society: my friend has become enemy, so he's trying to give me some displeasure. So this kind of. This is called adhibhautika
- Just like when we sleep deeply, there is no consciousness. There is consciousness - this is called susupti, unconscious. So again, as soon as the body is complete, then we get back our consciousness
- Just like you have the facility of travelling over the surface of the earth or in the outer space on the earth. But you cannot go beyond the orbit. This is called conditioned life
- Just like young boy and young girl, they meet together. Immediately their sex impulse become agitated. It hasn't got to be taught them. Naturally. Naturally, he wants to talk or she wants to talk. So this is called rati, spontaneous attraction
- Just like your coat and shirt cannot have hands and legs without you having your hands and legs; similarly, this material body which is considered as dress means it has developed on the personal body of the spiritual form. This is called savisesa-vada
- Just like, "O God, give us our daily bread." That means I have got attachment of this material world, and to live in this material world, I must have supplies of material things so that I can maintain my status quo. This is called material attachment
K
- Karandhara he's simply doing what I instruct, and he's doing very nicely, first class. Everyone who comes, they become enchanted with the temple, with the activities, with the disciples. So this is the way. This is called parampara system
- Karma, fruitive activities, "Let me work hard and get the result and enjoy." This is called karma. And jnana means speculative knowledge
- Karmana daiva-netrena: (SB 3.31.1) we work under the influence of material nature contaminated by the three modes, and thus we get a certain type of body according to superior order. This is called karma-bandha
- King Gaya gave full protection and security to the citizens so that their personal property would not be disturbed by undesirable elements. He also saw that there was sufficient food to feed all the citizens. (This is called posana)
- Krsna claims in Bhagavad-gita to be the father of all species of living entities; consequently the devotee of Krsna is always a friend of all. This is called ahimsa. Such nonviolence can be practiced only when we follow in the footsteps of great acaryas
- Krsna is giving us chance to touch Him, to see Him, to smell Him, to taste Him. By so many ways. This is called arcana-marga. And gradually, when we advance, it will be directly
- Krsna says that "First of all you become devotee of My devotee." Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, gopi-bhartuh pada-kamalayor dasa-dasa-dasanudasah: "I am the servant of the servant of the servant of Krsna." This is called parampara system
- Krsna says that, "You cannot make any solution of these problems." What is that? Birth, death, old age and disease, that is not possible. So we are happy by false happiness, this is called Maya. This is culture, this is Indian culture
- Krsna's final instruction in Bhagavad-gita is to surrender everything to Him. We can sacrifice our life, wealth and intelligence, and this is called yajna. Everyone has some intelligence, and everyone uses his intelligence in one way or another
- Krsna's loving affairs with the gopis without marriage, that is called parakiya-rasa. Parakiya-rasa is the highest, topmost relishable spiritual bliss
- Kuntidevi prays that just as the River Ganges flows toward the sea, her attraction will flow incessantly toward Krsna's lotus feet. This is called unalloyed devotion. Thus Kuntidevi prays that her attraction for Krsna will flow without hindrance

- Life is going on. "I have become befooled, so I don't want that my son will be intelligent. Let him become befooled. Let him become befooled." This is called punah punas carvita-carvananam (SB 7.5.30), repeatedly chewing the chewed
- Lord Brahma, being completely pure, could see the original form of the Lord as Visnu, having many thousands of faces and forms. This process is called self-realization
- Lord Ramacandra, thought that "My citizens are criticizing Me." Immediately He separated, Laksmi-devi, Sita. This is ideal king, no criticism from the citizen, even Lord Ramacandra. This is called rajarsi

- Madhu-parka, a small bowl containing madhu (honey, a little ghee, a little water, a little sugar, yogurt and milk) should be offered. This is called madhu-parka-acamana. (11) One should place wooden slippers before the Lord
- Maha-Visnu is partial representation of Govinda. Govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami. So this is called knowledge. One has to know what is God, what is the nature of God
- Many people come in our Society not in the beginning as devotee - as a matter of inquisitiveness. Then gradually he wants to become initiated. He approaches, "Kindly initiate me. Make me a disciple." Bhajana kriya. This is called bhajana-kriya
- Many things are reducing. We are thinking that we are making progress, but actually we are reducing. This is called maya. We are making progress on the wrong side
- Material world is complicated with the modes of material nature, so this is called guna. So anyone who is engaged constantly in devotional service, sa gunan samatityaitan (BG 14.26), he immediately transcends the influence of the material qualities
- Material world means to get this material body, and material body means subjected to the tribulations of material nature. This is called conditioned life
- Materially the father agitates the mother and the body is formed, similarly, spiritually, the spiritual master agitates the mother of Vedic knowledge, and the spiritual body is formed. This is called dvijah
- Maya means where there is no happiness, no fact, and still, we are struggling for it. This is called maya. Try to understand what is maya
- Maya-sukhaya means the happiness which has no standing, false, illusory. For this purpose, bharam udvahato vimudhan, big, big adventure, big, big things, they are contemplating, planning. That is called ghora, ghora-rupa
- Monarchy must be accepted. But at the present moment democracy means abolish monarchy and elect a rascal as monarch. This is called democracy
- My mind, my body, and my words - everything is dedicated to Krsna. It will be used only for Krsna and for no other purpose. - This is called tridanda-sannyasa
- My spiritual master, he would never say that "I am going," "I am doing," no. "If Krsna desires, then I shall do it." "If Krsna desires, then I shall go." Like that. Always depending on Krsna. This is called visuddhatma
N
- Narada Muni says in this verse (SB 4.29.62) that at death one takes his plans with him (grhniyat), and to execute these plans he gets another body. This is called punar bhavah
- Nirasih means desireless of extravagance. Now we are desiring for sense gratification more and more. That is not wanted. If you want perfection of life.... This is called tapasya
- No one is fully aware or convinced that the real person is not the body. This is called darkness, and when one is disgusted with this darkness, human life begins
- Nobody can be independent. We are dependent. And this is called knowledge. When you come to the sense, that "I am dependent; I am not independent," this is called knowledge
- Nobody can be independently servant of Krsna. That is another foolishness. Krsna never accepts anyone's service directly. No. That is not possible. You must come through the servant of the servant. This is called parampara system
- Nobody learns to smoke from the very birth. He has to eat something. He drinks milk, the child. He doesn't say, "Give me a cigarette," but you have learned it by bad association. This is called anartha
- Nobody's married timely, either boys or girls. And nobody's secure. Nobody knows what will happen next moment. This is called Kali-yuga
- Now you shave every morning and next morning, again millions of hairs. You do not know how it is being happening. But it is happening, and this is called acintya-sakti. From Krsna such big, big things are coming out. Even Krsna may not know
- Now, at the present moment, there are so many gurus. How we will understand who is perfect? This guru means who has heard from the perfect person. Therefore his knowledge is perfect, because he has heard. This is called parampara system
O
- O King Pariksit, I (Sukadeva Gosvami) have now described to you the fourteen Manus appearing in the past, present and future. The total duration of time ruled by these Manus is one thousand yuga cycles. This is called a kalpa, or one day of Lord Brahma
- Oh, you are eating, give me something." "All right, you also take." So this is called extended interest, and the beginning is self-interest, anna brahman, Self-preservation is the first law of nature
- On account of our abominable activities, from Brahma, we come down to become the worm of stool. This is called karma, ksetra
- On account of the yajana, the brahmana, being the head of society, performs all the Vedic rituals for ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras. This is called yajana, assisting others in performing ceremonies. The remaining two items are dana and pratigraha
- On the fifth day from the birth of a child, as also on the ninth day, the mother bathes either in the Ganges or in another sacred place. This is called niskramana, or the ceremony of coming out of the maternity home
- Once we understand our relationship with Krsna and our duty to Him, we naturally become reluctant to engage in material activities. This is called vairagya, detachment from material activities
- One attains yogic perfection when he is freed from all material diversions and his mind is fixed upon the lotus feet of the Lord. This is called samadhi or trance. Prahlada Maharaja attained that stage beyond the senses
- One Bengali poet, Bankim Chandra, says that to the eyes of the lover the beloved is always very beautiful, even though ugly. This attraction is called deva-maya
- One desiring perfection or liberation should associate with a person who is already liberated. This is called sadhu-sanga (CC Madhya 22.83), associating with a perfect devotee
- One devotee may be proud that his process of service is the best. That is not inglorious. This is called transcendental competition. Everyone should feel proud of his particular type of devotional service
- One should also offer a flame, incense and so on (to the deity of Lord Krsna), while ringing a bell, as prescribed. This is called worship of the Lord
- One should have complete faith in the words of Krsna, who says that He is the great well-wishing friend of everyone (suhrdam sarva-bhutanam). A devotee considers Krsna the only friend. This is called sakhyam. Pumsarpita visnau
- One should lament that, "We are under this rascal government, under the rascal guru, rascal father. But who are meant for giving protection, they are all rascals. This is our position." This is called Kali-yuga
- One should learn how to cry for the Lord. One should learn this small technique, and he should be very eager and actually cry to become engaged in some particular type of service. This is called laulyam
- One should not indulge in eating food in the modes of passion and ignorance. This is called ucitahara, or appropriate eating
- One should not indulge in sex outside of married life, for sex is sanctioned in the scripture only in marriage, not otherwise. This is called celibacy. These are penances and austerities as far as the body is concerned. BG 1972 purports
- One should take initiation from a bona fide spiritual master coming in the disciplic succession, who is authorized by his predecessor spiritual master. This is called diksa-vidhana
- One simply has to hear from the perfect source (this is called parampara) and follow the principles for practical application in life; thus one can attain the highest perfection of life - liberation - and go back home, back to Godhead
- One thinks that one has American senses, Indian senses, or African senses. This is called maya, illusion
- One who is fully surrendered is qualified with the six following characteristics: (2) He must reject everything unfavorable to the Lord’s service. This is also called renunciation
- One who is fully surrendered is qualified with the six following characteristics: (3) A devotee must be firmly convinced that Krsna will give him protection. No one else can actually give one protection, and being firmly convinced of this is called faith
- One who is learned knows that the small particle of spirit is there in the ant and in the elephant. Therefore he sees the elephant and the ant on the same level, on spiritual vision, not on this external vision. This is called self-realization
- Our father is Krsna. We can live in the spiritual world very comfortably without any botheration, without endeavor for earning money, but we have decided that we shall live here in this material world. This is called ass
- Out of ten children, only Caitanya Mahaprabhu was the living child of Sacima. So naturally she was very, very affection to his son, and Visnupriya, wife, very, very affectionate, beautiful, young - but He gave up. This is called vairagya-vidya
- Outside of Vaikuntha, the abode of Krsna, which is called paravyoma, is the glaring effulgence of Krsna's bodily rays. This is called the brahma-jyotir
P
- Pavarga and its component letters pa, pha, ba, bha, and ma indicate hard labor (parisrama), foam at the mouth (phena), frustration (vyartha), fear (bhaya), and death (mrtyu). This is called pavarga, the path of material tribulation
- People are always thinking that they are secure, and this is called maya, illusion
R
- Real purpose is to make him detached from this material attraction and make him promoted apavargyasya, how to get out of this material miserable condition of life. This is called dharmasya hy apavargyasya
- Real religious system is to understand that God is great; I am His servant. I am supported by Him; it is my duty to serve Him. This is religion. This is called bhagavata-dharma
- Refraining from sensual enjoyment, one should voluntarily accept all sorts of difficulties for spiritual realization. This is called tapasya. An enjoyer of the senses can never realize God, godliness or the science of theistic knowledge
S
- Sankaracarya gives a little more, saying that we should become desireless in this material world and then enter into the Brahman effulgence. This is called brahma-nirvana
- Saranagati, surrender. Surrender means that "I am surrendering to Krsna with full faith that He is quite competent and able to give me protection." This is called surrender
- Seven months, at that time the body is grown up, and in this way in tenth month the body is fully grown, then by nature’s way the body comes out and another life begins. This is called transmigration of the soul
- Simply by desiring to go back to home, back to Godhead one is supposed to follow the vow of brahmacari. Brahmacari, to live the life of celibacy, this is called brahmacari
- Simply by votes he is President. Actually he is not; he is the servant of the voters, but he's thinking, "I am President." This is called maya
- Smrti refers to the conclusions drawn from the Vedic evidence. Sometimes Mayavadi philosophers do not accept the authority of the Bhagavad-gita and the Puranas, and this is called ardha-kukkuti-nyaya, “the logic of half a hen”
- So all living entities, as Krishna said, existed in a different body. Now existing in a different body. This is called evolution or transmigration. This is evolution theory. Not theory, fact. In the Padma Purana... It is not Darwin's invention
- So as in spite of so many other bodies came and went, similarly, when this body will no longer exist, I'll transfer myself or transmigrate into another gross body. This is called transmigration of the soul
- So everyone is engaged in giving service to somebody else. This is called dharma, basic principle of dharma. So what is our dharma, living entity?
- So long one is not awakened to spiritual consciousness... "What I am? Why I am suffering? Is there any remedy? How I can save me?" - these questions should arise. This is called brahma-jijnasa. The Vedanta-sutra explains this
- So long we are in this material ocean, we have to accept these laws of nature, repetition of birth and death. This is called bhava-sagara
- So long we have got this material body, we have to eat. We cannot starve. That is not possible. Similarly, we have to take rest, sleeping; we have to enjoy or give satisfaction to our senses; and similarly, we have to defend. This is called visaya
- So long we live, there are so many miserable conditions of life. This is called material existence
- So that cultural unity we are seeing, that we are one spirit soul, aham brahmasmi, the Vedic language is called, when we understand that "I am not this body; I am spirit soul."Aham brahmasmi. This is called purification
- So their (animals) progress (of life) should not be checked simply to satisfy one's palate. This is called ahimsa
- So this is called accepting and rejecting. So Krsna says, "You have to give up all this nonsense accepting and rejecting. You have to take to Me, then you'll be happy
- So this is called varnasrama-dharma. The word dharma is used. Dharma means occupational duty. Dharma does not mean some religious sentiment. No. Natural division and the occupational duty
- So to understand this fact, that simply by engaging oneself into the activities of Krsna consciousness everything is completely done, this is called faith. Faith, strong faith, unflinching faith
- So when one is fully equipped in knowledge, then he asks his wife to go to home to be taken care of by the elderly children, and he becomes a sannyasi. This is called varnasrama-dharma
- Somebody is in the cat's body. Somebody's dog's body. Somebody's in human being's body. Somebody is in demigod's body. These bodies are offered by prakrti according to price you pay. This is called karma
- Somehow or other Ajamila was attached to the name Narayana. This is called ajnata-sukrti. Although calling for his son, he was unknowingly chanting the name of Narayana
- Someone else may think, "Oh, why shall I touch it (a hundred dollar note)? It belongs to someone else. Let it remain there. I have nothing to do with it." This is called tyaga, renunciation
- Sometimes dirty foam or garbage is seen floating on the water of the Ganges. This is called nira-dharma, a function of the water
- Sometimes it is asked how Krsna causes one to forget. Krsna personally causes His devotee to forget material activities, and through the agency of maya Krsna causes the nondevotee to forget his devotional service to the Lord. This is called apohana
- Sometimes it so happens that in the last war in the concentrative camp, the human being was obliged to eat his own stool. So this is called karma
- Sometimes the Lord thinks of Himself as a cowherd boy, and sometimes He thinks of Himself as the son of Vasudeva, a ksatriya prince, and this "thinking" of Krsna is called His "pastimes"
- Spiritual master means they must have many followers. They are all Vaisnavas. They are called prabhus, and the spiritual master is called prabhupada, because on his lotus feet there are many prabhus. Pada means lotus foot
- Sraddha means to accept that, "This is a nice movement." Just like you have come here with this sraddha, little faith that, "What these people are making in Krsna consciousness movement? Let us go and see." This is called sraddha. This is the first thing
- Srila Rupa Gosvami says in his Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (1.2.256): "When persons eager to achieve liberation renounce things which are related to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, though they are material, this is called incomplete renunciation"
- Srotriyam, generation by hearing from the bona fide spiritual master. Srotriyam brahma-nistham. After hearing, one must be firmly fixed up in brahma-jnana. Brahma-nistham. This is called srotriyam
- Such a proposition - yata mata, tata patha - is foolish. Krsna says, bhaktyaham ekaya grahyah - Only by executing the activities of bhakti can one understand Me - This is called anukulyena krsnanusilanam, remaining engaged favorably in the service of God
- Such a speech (of King Puranjana) is typical of a living entity attracted by the opposite sex. This is called bewilderment occasioned by becoming conditioned by material nature
- Superficially one may show himself to be very much faithful to the rules and regulations, but at the same time not be fixed in the regulative principles. This is called niyamagraha
- Suppose I started my business with a vast amount of money, but I failed to make a successful . . . I lost all the money. So I am sufferer. So similarly, in every field of our life we enjoy, we enjoy the result of our work. This is called karma
- Suppose in an assembly one finds a hundred-dollar note that has fallen from someone's pocket. If one takes that note and puts it in one's own pocket, one is a thief because that note does not belong to him. This is called bhoga, false enjoyment

- Tapasya means that we must proceed with our business of Krsna consciousness despite all the dangers and calamities of this world. This is called tapasya, or voluntary acceptance of the difficulties of life
- Tapasya should be executed, how we can also revive our original constitutional position, sac-cid-ananda-vigraha. This is called suddhyet sattva
- That is real Vedic culture, how to create brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa - eight. This is called varnasrama-dharma
- The animal, he is seeing that "One animal is being killed. Next time is mine," but still eating grass. He has no anxiety. This is called pramattah pasyann api na pasyati. This is animal life, that even though fact is there, they will close their eyes
- The asuras are always fighting to overcome these impediments, and by the illusory power of material nature the foolish living entities work very hard within this material world and take this to be happiness. This is called maya
- The best lawyer gives evidence from the past judgment of the court without taking much trouble to establish his case. This is called the parampara system, and learned authorities follow it without manufacturing rubbish interpretations
- The bodily conception is created by the desire for material enjoyment. This is called vipada-smrti, which is the opposite of real life
- The bona fide spiritual master is he who has received the mercy of his guru, who in turn is bona fide because he has received the mercy of his guru. This is called the parampara system
- The brahmanas, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas, the sudras, the brahmacari, the grhastha, the vanaprastha, and the sannyasi - this is called varnasrama. This is the form of human civilization
- The British Empire was established on management. They did not bring men from England. Few managers, that's all. That is called management. One man can control hundreds and thousands of men, that is management. Locally attracted
- The chariots of an aksauhini have been calculated at 21,870 by those who know the science of such calculations & the number of elephants is the same. The number of infantry soldiers is 109,350 & the number of horses is 65,610. This is called an aksauhini
- The cobbler answered (to Narada Muni), "If, within a small seed there can be a big tree like this, is it difficult to accept that the Lord is pushing an elephant through the eye of a needle." So this is called faith
- The conclusion is that when this body will be no more fit for existing we shall have to accept another body. This is called tatha dehantara-praptih. So we have to change. That is nature's law. The soul is immortal
- The Deities must be worshiped, and this is called pancaratriki-vidhi. There must also be bhagavata-vidhi, reading Srimad Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam
- The Deity should have a new dress every day or twice or four times a day - as many times as possible. This is called srngara
- The false ego created by material contact is then gradually vanquished, & this dismantling of false egoism causes liberation from all material designations & renewed awareness of our relationship with the Absolute Truth. This is called liberation in life
- The four yugas are calculated in terms of the heavenly calendars and accordingly are twelve thousand years in terms of the heavenly planets. This is called a divya-yuga, and one thousand divya-yugas make one day of Brahma
- The guru does not manufacture a new process to instruct the disciple. The disciple receives from the guru an authorized process received by the guru from his guru. This is called the system of disciplic succession - BG 4.2
- The hog replied: "Oh I cannot go with you. I have so many responsibilities - my children, wife and this nice hog society." Even though Brahma promised to take him back to heaven, Indra, in the form of a hog, refused. This is called forgetfulness
- The individual exists in darkness when he thinks that he is the material body and that everything in relationship with the material body belongs to him. This is called aham mama (janasya moho 'yam aham mameti (SB 5.5.8)). This is illusion
- The inhabitants of the planet Siddhaloka can fly from one planet to another without airplanes. This is called laghima-siddhi. They can actually become very light and fly in the sky

- There are activities of the body, activities of the different senses and activities of speech. A Krsna conscious person engages his words in preaching the glories of the Lord. This is called kirtana
- There are others, namely jnanis and yogis, who want the benediction of merging into the existence of the Lord. This is called kaivalya. The Lord is therefore addressed as kaivalya-pati, the master or Lord of the benediction known as kaivalya
- There are ritualistic processes in every religion and in every scripture - but if we stick to that, then the result will be they will be entrapped by the search, fanaticism, and it will be not possible to make progress. This is called daksina system

- This (initiation) is the beginning of voluntary acceptance of the spiritual master. That means he agrees that he will abide by the orders of the spiritual master. This is called acceptance of spiritual master. Sisya
- This (moon) is the nearest planet, and there are so many other planets also. So you cannot go by your whims or by your will. This is called bondage

- This is called Bhurloka, then Bhuvarloka, Svargaloka, Janaloka, Maharloka, Tapoloka, Satyaloka, Brahmaloka - these are different higher planetary system - & each loka, the standard of happiness is thousand times better than the earth. This is the position
- This is called dvija, or the second birth. When you catch hold of a bona fide spiritual master just to guide you to act on the spiritual platform, then your second life begins. It is called dvija. So this life is so important that one must begin it
- This is called full faith, that "Krsna has said that if I am in devotional service, I will never be lost. Krsna will give me protection"
- This is called initiation, that to the spiritual master or Krsna we surrender. He immediately excuses all sinful reaction of life. But if we commit again and again, that is not very good proposal
- This is called jata-karma. Just after the child is born, this astrologer will come and he will see the moment, the astronomical situation, and make a horoscope, and then immediately his future activities and everything will be clearly made
- This is called raja-vidya, the knowledge, the king of all knowledge. Raja-guhyam, the king of all confidential things. Raja-vidya raja-guhyam pavitram paramam idam, and very pure, and sublime
- This is called spell of maya. Maya will dictate, "Oh, you are going to serve Krsna? How you'll maintain yourself, you foolish? Don't go there. Don't go to the Krsna consciousness Society. It is cheating." No, it is not cheating, it is actual fact
- This is called sunyavadi - Make everything zero. Why you are suffering from fever? The best means is that cut your throat and become happy
- This is called surrender that, "I have tried to satisfy my . . . the whims of my senses so many lives. I have become frustrated, confused. Let me try this life to satisfy the senses of Krsna." That's all

- This is called upama, analogy, the points of similarity. Analogy means the points of similarity. Then you can conclude some idea

- This is called utsahan niscayad dhairyat tat-tat-karma-pravartanat, enthusiastically executing the regulative activities of devotional service with patience and confidence. In this way one can advance in devotional service without hindrance
- This is called variety, not nirvisesa-vada, classless: "No brahmana required, no sudra required." No, everything is required. Everything is required, but they should be properly trained up
- This is called varnasrama-dharma. This is real purpose of life: four varnas, four classes of men, up to fourth class, not up to tenth class. And then spiritual life: brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa
- This is called visoko brahma-sampattya. When we understand our spiritual identity, then we are no more lamenting or jubilation. Equilibrium. Read the purport. It is very important verse

- To be convinced firmly with all reasons and argument, firmly conviction, this is called faith. Faith is not flickering. One must be firmly convinced. So then you immediately become joyful
- To be cured of a disease, we may have to agree to undergo some surgical operation. Although the operation may be very painful, we have to tolerate it. This is called titiksavah

- Today I may love some man or woman, but tomorrow we may break up. All of this is due to the defects of the material world. However, in the spiritual world these relationships never break up. They simply increase and increase, and this is called perfection
- Trpyanti neha krpanah: but one who is an ignorant rascal will not be satisfied. Instead, he will do the same things again and again (punah punas carvita-carvananam (SB 7.5.30)). This is called bhava-roga, the disease of material existence

- Vedas accept that cow dung is pure; we accept it. Cow dung is pure. This is called sruti-pramana. Sruti-pramana means the real knowledge, perfect knowledge, is coming from the supreme perfect, Krsna
- Veri means lamb or sheep. If you can push one of them in the slaughterhouse, all of them enter. This is called veriya dasan. You haven't got to endeavor to push others. You just push one only. 'Fut, fut, fut, fut, fut, fut, fut', they all enter
- Vimarsana means that think over the matter, that "Why I am doing this?" This is called brahma-jijnasa. This is called brahma-jijnasa. Means when a person becomes inquisitive about this "Why?" "Why I am suffering?" then he becomes intelligent

- We are attached to something with consciousness, not blindly. So we have got the consciousness. When we turn our attachment, or train ourself to increase our attachment for Krsna, that is called bhakti-yogam
- We are discussing Bhagavad-gita very scrutinizingly, and trying to understand every verse with reference to the Vedic, I mean, reference and as far as our logic and argument goes. So this is called jnana-yajna
- We are trying to conquer over the stringent laws of material nature, and that labor, that useless spoiling of life, we are thinking that we are . . . this is happiness. This is called maya
- We are under the stringent rules of material nature, but still we are thinking that we have conquered. This is called maya
- We can live in the spiritual world very comfortably without any botheration, without endeavor for earning money, but we have decided that we shall live here in this material world. This is called ass
- We cannot capture the greater than the greatest. That is not possible. Therefore it is His kindness that He has become just to be handled by you. This is called arca-murti, arca-vigraha. The Deity worship means arca-vigraha
- We don't say, "Don't sleep," but we say, "Reduce sleep as much as possible. Reduce your eating as much as possible." So this is called tapasya
- We got this information from His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, and that knowledge is still going on. You are receiving through his servant. And in future the same knowledge will go to your students. This is called parampara system

- We see of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His immediate successors, Gosvamis, they are mad after Krsna. They never said that "We have seen Krsna." This is called bhajana by separation, vipralambha-seva

- We should not be lazy and idle and gossiping. We must fully utilize the intelligence which God has given us, but at the same time, we must completely depend on God. This is called "In God we trust"
- We should simply depend on Krsna. We shall simply exert our all energies for the service of Krsna, everything will be all right. This is called surrender, this is called confidence. Krsna will supply everything
- We worship the guru as Vyasa-puja because representative of Vyasa. And who is Vyasa? Representative of Narada. What is Narada? Representative of Brahma. What is Brahma? Representative of Krsna. This is called parampara system
- We, or I, the spirit soul, being carried by the subtle body, and the nature is giving me another gross body. In this way we are transmigrating from one body to another. This is called evolution
- What are you eating? "Four capatis. That's all." Why four capatis you are working so hard? "No, for my next generation," or "For my son, for my grandson, for my this, for my that, and . . ." This is called mudha
- What is that knowledge? Knowledge that "I am not this body." This is knowledge. And if simply I think "I am this body," you may advance in your so-called scientific knowledge; you are a fool. This is called jnanam
- Whatever Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami heard is recorded in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta. This is called the parampara system, from Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to Svarupa Damodara to Raghunatha dasa Gosvami to Kaviraja Gosvami
- Whatever you have learned - you are one of the old students - whatever you have gathered by experience, you must hand them over to the new students. This is called parampara
- When a brahmana adopts the profession of a kapota, or pigeon, he lives by collecting grains from the field. This is called uncha-vrtti
- When a person attains his desired object and feels very fortunate, the luster of his body increases. Because of his own qualities and feelings of greatness, he does not care for anyone else, and this is called garva, or pride
- When a person speaks very nicely at a meeting, he is congratulated by the audience, who express their good will with the words sadhu, sadhu. This is called sadhu-vada
- When Krsna advised Brahma after creation, then He said, jnanam me . . . this is called catuh-sloki-bhagavata (SB 2.9.33-36), the 4 slokas which is the basic principle of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Jnanam parama-guhyam. The knowledge of Krsna is very confidential
- When one actually awakens from material life, one understands his real position as an eternal servant of Krsna. This is called liberation. Muktir hitvanyatha rupam svarupena vyavasthitih - SB 2.10.6

- When one is put into an awkward position because of ignorance, the process by which one can be freed from this entanglement is called yoga. This is also called liberation
- When one is smiling but his teeth are not visible, one can distinctly mark a definite change in the eyes and in the cheeks. This is called smita smiling
- When one is substantially convinced that he is always protected by Krsna in all circumstances, that feeling is called reverential devotion
- When one's personal body and head is given to the service of the Lord, then one becomes perfect in offering everything to the Lord. This is called complete surrender of everything that a devotee may possess
- When one’s relationship with the Supreme Lord is established, the next program is to act in that relationship. This is called abhidheya, or activity in relationship with the Lord
- When ordinary work aims at a transcendental objective, this work is called karma-yoga
- When passing through a mountainous region in an airplane, one may sometimes see a city in the sky with towers and palaces, or one may see similar things in a big forest. This is called a gandharva-pura, a phantasmagoria
- When people are demoniac in spirit, they are not merciful toward the poor animals. Consequently, they maintain various animal slaughterhouses. This is technically called suna, or himsa, which means the killing of living beings
- When the body begins to perspire because of joy, fear and anger combined, this is called sveda
- When the heart is cleansed we can understand our real position, and how we are suffering, and how to take steps against this suffering. This is called bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam, extinguishing the blazing fire of material existence
- When the ultimate goal and interest of one's self, one's wife, one's children, one's relatives and all other embodied living beings is one, this is called dravyadvaita, or oneness of interest
- When there are no other arguments, he (the person that disobediently agitates against the government) is punished. In logic, this is called argumentum ad baculum
- When there is a combination of moroseness, astonishment, anger, joy and fear, there is a choking in the voice. This choking is called gadgada
- When there is an important Dvadasi, the Ekadasi fasting is transferred on the Dvadasi, and this is called Mahadvadasi
