- The brahmana continued: I am actually seeing how a rich man, who is a victim of his senses, is very greedy to accumulate wealth, and therefore suffers from insomnia due to fear from all sides, despite his wealth and opulence
- The brahmanas and Vaisnavas are not greedy for material wealth. An example of this was given by Vamanadeva. Acting as a brahmacari, Lord Vamanadeva wanted only three paces of land

- The word amalatmanam refers to one who has no dirty things in his heart. The heart of a materialistic person is full of dirty things. What are those dirty things? Lust and greed
- The worker who is attached to work and the fruits of work, desiring to enjoy those fruits, and who is greedy, always envious, impure, and moved by joy and sorrow, is said to be in the mode of passion
- There are difficulties arising from so-called happiness, distress, attachment, hate, fear, false prestige, illusion, madness, lamentation, bewilderment, greed, envy, enmity, insult, hunger, thirst, tribulation, disease, birth, old age and death

- Unfortunately, however, instead of becoming Krsna's servants, we are becoming servants of so many other things. We are servants of our senses and the sensual activities of lust, anger, greed, and illusion. Actually the whole world is serving in this way
- Unscrupulous greedy brahmanas of the age of Kali induce the innocent public to such uncertain sacrificial shows without disclosing the scriptural injunction that in the age of Kali there is no fruitful sacrificial performance

- Very good facility for driving motorcar, and they have got enough motorcar also. Every third man has got a car. But what are these civilization? Kama and lobha, lustiness and greediness. That's all
- Viraktir anyatra ca (SB 11.2.42). This is the test - when one is free from lusty desires and greed, then he is situated in bhakti-yoga and is actually a paramahamsa

- We are servant, even in this condition. But we are servant of maya, illusion - means we are servant of our lusty desires: kama; krodha, anger; lobha, greediness; moha, illusion; so many, mada, madness
- We can vanquish all these false conceptions when we come to the platform of sattva-guna. Then we will not be disturbed by tamo-guna or rajo-guna, nor by kama or lobha (lust and greed). This is the vasudeva platform. Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya
- We have nothing to learn; it is already there. The kama, the lust, is there. Krodha is there, lobha, greediness is there. Everything should be changed for Krsna's satisfaction

- When one hears about the Supreme Lord, automatically the brahma-bhuta stage develops, and material contamination-greediness and lust for sense enjoyment-disappears. BG 1972 purports
- When one is completely cleansed of the impurities of lust and greed produced from the false identification of the body as "I" and bodily possessions as "mine," one's mind becomes purified
- When one is elevated to the platform of goodness, he is satisfied in any condition of life and is without lust and greed. This mentality indicates one's situation on the platform of goodness
- When one is situated as a devotee, then this base quality, rajas-tamah, ignorance and passion, the symptoms: kama-lobhadayas. Lusty desires, and greediness. Strong sex desire or satisfy the senses, eating too much, lobha, greediness - these things go
- When one surrenders unto the lotus feet of the Lord, these impediments (Attachment, greed and lust) are withdrawn, and one can realize the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore the Lord is the protector of the surrendered soul
- When there is an increase in lobha, or greed, which is the greatest enemy caused by rajo-guna, the mode of passion, how can one advance in Krsna consciousness?
- When traders become too greedy and materialistic they take to large-scale commerce and industry and allure the poor agriculturalist to unsanitary industrial towns with a false hope of earning more money
- When you are able to stop this pinching in your heart by these two modes of material nature, passion and greediness - tada ceta etair anaviddham sthitam sattve prasidati-prasidati - then you become joyful
- Where is such happiness for a materialistic man who is impelled by lust and greed and who therefore wanders in all directions with a desire to accumulate wealth?
