Real acarya

Sri Caitanya-caritamrta

CC Adi-lila

Influenced by an envious temperament and dissatisfied because of an attitude of sense gratification, mundaners criticize a real ācārya
CC Adi 1.46, Purport: If one poses himself as an acarya but does not have an attitude of servitorship to the Lord, he must be considered an offender, and this offensive attitude disqualifies him from being an acarya. The bona fide spiritual master always engages in unalloyed devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. By this test he is known to be a direct manifestation of the Lord and a genuine representative of Sri Nityananda Prabhu. Such a spiritual master is known as acaryadeva. Influenced by an envious temperament and dissatisfied because of an attitude of sense gratification, mundaners criticize a real acarya. In fact, however, a bona fide acarya is nondifferent from the Personality of Godhead, and therefore to envy such an acarya is to envy the Personality of Godhead Himself. This will produce an effect subversive of transcendental realization.

Bhagavad-gita As It Is Lectures

One who has taken shelter of a real ācārya, spiritual master, from the disciplic succession, he knows
Lecture on BG 4.34-39 -- Los Angeles, January 12, 1969: Therefore just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. One who is fortunate to have a bona fide spiritual master, he is supposed to... Acaryavan puruso veda: "One who has taken shelter of a real acarya, spiritual master, from the disciplic succession, he knows." Acaryavan puruso veda. Veda means "He is in the knowledge." One who has accepted a bona fide spiritual master, he is in the knowledge. Others are fools. This is the Vedic version everywhere. Here also, Bhagavad-gita, it is said that "You try to learn the truth by approaching spiritual master."

Srimad-Bhagavatam Lectures

So the Indians especially, they have got the opportunity to learn these Vedic śāstras and realize his self and introduce this Kṛṣṇa consciousness throughout the whole world. That is Caitanya Mahāprabhu's mission. And all ācāryas, they do like that. That is the business of real ācārya
Lecture on SB 1.7.6 -- Vrndavana, April 18, 1975: So the Indians especially, they have got the opportunity to learn these Vedic sastras and realize his self and introduce this Krsna consciousness throughout the whole world. That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mission. And all acaryas, they do like that. That is the business of real acarya. So bhakti-yogam adhoksaje. So this is very important thing because it is said, lokasya ajanatah: "These foolish men, they do not know that their problems can be solved only by this bhakti-yoga, Krsna consciousness." They do not know it. Lokasya ajanatah. Therefore vidvan... Vyasadeva is vidvan. He is the first-class vidvan. Cakre satvata-samhitam. This samhita means Vedic literature for enlightening people. So every Vaisnava's duty is that you make your life first of all perfect by understanding your real position and preach this cult because lokasyajanatah: all people throughout the whole world, they are ajanatah. Ajanatah means they do not know anything. Although very proud... They think that having some material advancement of life, that is perfection.
Not that one ācārya will say, "I have seen"—so-called ācārya, not real ācārya—"I have seen in dream." The other day the letter came? He has seen, realized in dream, nitāi-gaura rādhe-śyāma. This is not the process
Lecture on SB 5.6.8 -- Vrndavana, November 30, 1976: Hm. Vede gaya jahara carito. This is according to, strictly according to the version of the Ve... Saksad-dhari... You'll see. This is... Narottama dasa Thakura is singing, vede gaya yahara carita, and Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, he is also singing, saksad-dharitvena samasta-sastraih. So there is no difference. Not that one acarya will say, "I have seen" -- so-called acarya, not real acarya -- "I have seen in dream." The other day the letter came? He has seen, realized in dream, nitai-gaura radhe-syama. This is not the process. Process is the sastra, authority. That is... We have to... Not that jugglery: "I have seen in dream. I have to become guru." No. Whether you are actually in terms of the sastra? Whether actually you are dear to Krsna, you are most confidential servant? That we have to test.
