Long time ago

Bhagavad-gita As It Is

BG Preface and Introduction

The original father of this movement is Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself, since it was started a very long time ago but is coming down to human society by disciplic succession.
BG Preface:

Older gentlemen are becoming interested, so much so that the fathers and grandfathers of my disciples are encouraging us by becoming life members of our great society, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. In Los Angeles many fathers and mothers used to come to see me to express their feelings of gratitude for my leading the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement throughout the entire world. Some of them said that it is greatly fortunate for the Americans that I have started the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement in America. But actually the original father of this movement is Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself, since it was started a very long time ago but is coming down to human society by disciplic succession. If I have any credit in this connection, it does not belong to me personally, but it is due to my eternal spiritual master, His Divine Grace Oṁ Viṣṇupāda Paramahaṁsa Parivrājakācārya 108 Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Mahārāja Prabhupāda.

Srimad-Bhagavatam

SB Canto 4

SB 4.9.51, Translation:

The residents of the palace praised the Queen: Dear Queen, your beloved son was lost a long time ago, and it is your great fortune that he now has come back. It appears, therefore, that your son will be able to protect you for a very long time and will put an end to all your material pangs.

Srimad-Bhagavatam Lectures

That Easy Journey... Long time ago, I think sometimes in 1960, so one gentleman met me: "Sir, your book, Easy Journey... So we shall go there?" "Yes, we shall go." "And again I shall come back?" "No, no coming back." So "Then what it is?" That means he want to sense gratification. He wants to go to moon planet or to any planet, come back, and become boast amongst his friends, "You see, I have gone there."
Lecture on SB 1.2.21 -- Los Angeles, August 24, 1972:

So if you actually want to go to moon planet, there is clear process:

yānti deva-vratā devān
pitṟn yānti pitṛ-vratāḥ
bhūtāni yānti bhūtejyā
yānti mad-yājino 'pi mām
(BG 9.25)

That Easy Journey... Long time ago, I think sometimes in 1960, so one gentleman met me: "Sir, your book, Easy Journey... So we shall go there?" "Yes, we shall go." "And again I shall come back?" "No, no coming back." So "Then what it is?" That means he want to sense gratification. He wants to go to moon planet or to any planet, come back, and become boast amongst his friends, "You see, I have gone there." (laughter) That is his business. Actually, he doesn't want to go there, neither he has got power to go, but he wants to satisfy his senses that "I shall go there and come back and show my chest very swollen, that 'I have gone to the moon planet.' " Eh? That one aeronautics, he first went with that, what is called, capsule? And he was greeted all over the world. He went to India also. Our rascal leaders, they also greeted him. Kruschev and others. What? "He has gone round." And it was published in the... When he was rounding, then he was seeing, trying to see, "Where is my Russia? Where is my Moscow?" So the attraction is here, in Moscow.

When you came here?
Lecture on SB 5.5.2 -- London, September 17, 1969:

Prabhupāda: All right. So you wanted to talk with me?

Woman: Yes. If you come little earlier for...

Indian lady: Yes, I stopped here long time ago, about hour and twenty minutes.

Prabhupāda: When you came here?

Indian lady: I was here a long time ago.

Prabhupāda: No, why did you not see me in my apartment?

Devotee: She arrived at seven.

Prabhupāda: Oh, you came at seven. That time I was preparing to come here. Yes. So would you like to come tomorrow?

Indian lady: It's such a long (indistinct).

Prabhupāda: Oh, then you cannot wait also just now?

Indian lady: I can wait, but...

Prabhupāda: If you like you can stay here, night, with the girls. Yes.

Conversations and Morning Walks

1971 Conversations and Morning Walks

The priestly class, they will make propaganda against us: "Oh, they are mlecchas, they are Europeans, they are Americans. What they can do? It is not good." Because India, the caste system is very strong. So I am giving the Europeans and Americans the opportunities to become brāhmaṇa, they are not satisfied.
Room Conversation -- London, August 10, 1971:

Prabhupāda: But he says they're not willing. That is the difference.

Mr. Arnold: I don't think they're willing at this stage, my lord, because there's been so little done for them, and I feel, and I...

Śyāmasundara: Well, we're having Jagannātha parade, Prabhupāda is speaking...

Mr. Arnold: Yes, but in their own communities, we, I suggested a long time ago that in fact there should be an appeal, start off with an appeal in the local papers.

Prabhupāda: The priestly class, they will make propaganda against us: "Oh, they are mlecchas, they are Europeans, they are Americans. What they can do? It is not good." Because India, the caste system is very strong. So I am giving the Europeans and Americans the opportunities to become brāhmaṇa, they are not satisfied.

1973 Conversations and Morning Walks

Long time ago. I went there in 1925. I was going to Kashmir. On my way I stopped in Lahore, Amritsar, and some other places.
Room Conversation with French Journalist and UNESCO Worker -- August 10, 1973, Paris:

Prabhupāda: So one Bengali gentleman, he was Mr. Mitha, they were physician. So I became his guest. They were very well-to-do men. They were living therefore two, three generations. Mithi family.

Dr. Inger: I see. There was also some man called Birmitha. Was he the same? Bir...

Prabhupāda: I, I...

Dr. Inger: Perhaps...

Prabhupāda: I forget the name.

Dr. Inger: Yes, there were quite a number of Bengalis there.

Prabhupāda: Yes, yes, yes.

Dr. Inger: Long time ago.

Prabhupāda: Long time ago. I went there in 1925. I was going to Kashmir. On my way I stopped in Lahore, Amritsar, and some other places.

1975 Conversations and Morning Walks

Oh, long time ago. You could not answer?
Morning Walk -- February 23, 1975, Caracas:

Prabhupāda: Where is perfection? Why do you die? You don't like to die. Where is perfection? Nobody wants to die, but it is sure that he will die. Where is perfection?

Vīrabāhu: He says because of the fear of dying, one invents God.

Prabhupāda: Stop it, this. Then we shall not think of God. You are scientist, rascal. You stop it. Then we shall not think of God. Why you ask stop thinking of God before making arrangement that we shall not die? First of all make this arrangement. The cause of fear, death... "Death is the cause of fear; therefore we are thinking of God." So you stop this cause. We shall not think of God. You were present when this rascal was talking?

Vīrabāhu: Yes, yes. That was long time ago.

Prabhupāda: Oh, long time ago. You could not answer?

Vīrabāhu: Oh, yes, I was new in the movement (indistinct)

These are all stories. Don't indulge in stories. Just try to find out the real fact from śāstra.
Morning Walk -- April 1, 1975, Mayapur:

Prabhupāda: Had there been any real king, he would have been killed immediately. Because there is no king, therefore in South India, they are insulting the statue of Lord Rāmacandra, because there is no king. Everyone is king. Diplomacy... Democracy. What is this nonsense, democracy? All over the world the royalty is hereditary, never elected. (break) ...and it was hereditary, even Russia. That is the system. Evaṁ paramparā-prāptam (BG 4.2). And evaṁ paramparā-prāptam—who? Rājarṣayoḥ. They are king, but just like saintly persons. That is king, not a loafer class is elevated to the royal post. Rājarṣayoḥ. Although they're holding the post of a king for administration, they're just like ṛṣi. That is king.

Pañcadraviḍa: In France they went to the Queen a long time ago, and they said, "The people don't have bread." So she said, "Let them eat cake." And they did not like this. So...

Prabhupāda: These are all stories. Don't indulge in stories. Just try to find out the real fact from śāstra. Therefore śāstra... Yaḥ śāstra-vidhim utsṛjya vartate kāma-kārataḥ (BG 16.23). Leaving aside the śāstra, if one talks nonsense...

1976 Conversations and Morning Walks

That's all right.
Room Conversation -- January 19, 1976, Mayapur:

Jayapatākā: That was a long time ago I gave one book. Since then you wrote that don't give any books, but that was a long time ago I gave.

Prabhupāda: That's all right. So you have talked and dealt with him?

1977 Conversations and Morning Walks

Long time.
Morning Walk -- February 1, 1977, Bhuvanesvara:

Prabhupāda: But why the modern ape is not producing any human being?

Svarūpa Dāmodara: They say that's a long time ago...

Prabhupāda: Long time.

Svarūpa Dāmodara: Millions of years ago.

Prabhupāda: But why man is producing man? Not the ape? Just see how they lunatic they are.

Yes.
Room Conversation -- November 8, 1977, Vrndavana:

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: He wants to bring the brāhmaṇas to inaugurate the Bombay temple, Śrīla Prabhupāda?

Prabhupāda: That we shall consider later.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: 'Cause we already told these South Indian brāhmaṇas to come.

Prabhupāda: Some of them may go also.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Do you know this man from a long time ago?

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: He wants some money for some temple?

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Here in Vṛndāvana.

Prabhupāda: Hm. Now stop talking. (long pause) You have given him ten rupees?

The Madhu demon was killed a very long time ago, in the beginning of the creation.
Letter to Ekayani -- Los Angeles 10 February, 1970:

We do not find who is the mother of Subhadra, but she was one of Vasudeva's wives. So far putting kohl on the eyes of the Deities, that is not required. The Madhu demon was killed a very long time ago, in the beginning of the creation. The story may be found in one of the Puranas.
