In every university

Conversations and Morning Walks

1977 Conversations and Morning Walks

The teaching of Bhagavad-Gita should be in every university.
Morning Talk -- April 5, 1977, Bombay:

Prabhupāda: Similarly, if government requires teaching the science that this body is not yourself, you are different from the body, if some other sect, they say, "That it is stated in the Bhagavad-gītā; it is meant for the Hindus, not for us," will it be accepted?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: It should not be.

Prabhupāda: Therefore the institution for teaching Bhagavad-gītā must be there. The science of life...

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: It should be there in every university.

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: It's scientific. It is the only scientific book.

Prabhupāda: Yes. Dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā [Bg. 2.13]. Kaumāra, childhood, yauvanam, youthhood, and jarā, old age, does it mean only for the Hindus?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: No.

Prabhupāda: Then how this science should be stopped for others? It is universal.

Correspondence

1969 Correspondence

Please try to introduce the reading of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is in your university.
Letter to Rupanuga -- Los Angeles 15 January, 1969: Please try to introduce the reading of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is in your university where you shall be teaching. I understand that some rubbish commentaries upon Bhagavad-gita are allowed to be studied in every university, so if you can replace our Bhagavad-gita As It Is it will be a great advancement for our missionary activities, and people will thereby be benefited.

1971 Correspondence

In every university there is a department of religion.
Letter to Jananivasa -- Bombay 5 March, 1971: I am glad to hear how you are lecturing in college classes also. That is very good program. Take as many such college classes as possible. You write to say that there is some difficulty in distriuting books because religious teachings are unlawful in public schools. How is that? In every university there is a department of religion. Unless they understand religion in elementary schools, what they will understand in college? Our philosophy and teachings should be studied in childhood, just after reaching five years of age.
