Prabhupāda: ...Bhaktivedanta Book Fund account (Bengali). "Five thousand dollars. You take advance. Deposit. And take my orders." So I gave him order, "Books worth fifty-two thousands of dollars, advancing five thousand dollars." And they gradually supplied to India. And from U.S.A. we gradually, little by little, we paid. So that became the asset, of books. And I advised them that "You go and present these books to respectable gentlemen to become a member, and they'll become." And actually that plan became successful. Now the same members, they have not only paid eleven hundred. Now some of them, they're paying eleven thousand. Recently one gentleman belonging to the Birla family... Eh?

SB 6.5.38, Purport:
A pure devotee is not interested in yogic perfection, travel to higher planetary systems, or oneness with Brahman. He is interested only in rendering service to the Personality of Godhead. Since Prajāpati Dakṣa was a karmī, he could not appreciate the great service Nārada Muni had rendered his eleven thousand sons. Instead, he accused Nārada Muni of being sinful and charged that because Nārada Muni was associated with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Lord would also be defamed. Thus Dakṣa criticized that Nārada Muni was an offender to the Lord although he was known as an associate of the Lord.

SB 10.1.1, Purport:
Animal hunters are completely different from ordinary karmīs, and thus they have been excluded from the process of hearing and chanting. Vinā paśu-ghnāt. They cannot enter into the transcendental pleasure of chanting and hearing the holy name of the Lord.
The word mahā-ratha refers to a great hero who can fight alone against eleven thousand other heroes, and the word atiratha, as found in text five, refers to one who can fight against an unlimited number. This is mentioned in the Mahābhārata as follows:

The Brahmā Purāṇa consists of ten thousand verses, the Padma Purāṇa of fifty-five thousand, Śrī Viṣṇu Purāṇa of twenty-three thousand, the Śiva Purāṇa of twenty-four thousand and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam of eighteen thousand. The Nārada Purāṇa has twenty-five thousand verses, the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa nine thousand, the Agni Purāṇa fifteen thousand four hundred, the Bhaviṣya Purāṇa fourteen thousand five hundred, the Brahma-vaivarta Purāṇa eighteen thousand and the Liṅga Purāṇa eleven thousand. The Varāha Purāṇa contains twenty-four thousand verses, the Skanda Purāṇa eighty-one thousand one hundred, the Vāmana Purāṇa ten thousand, the Kūrma Purāṇa seventeen thousand, the Matsya Purāṇa fourteen thousand, the Garuḍa Purāṇa nineteen thousand and the Brahmāṇḍa Purāṇa twelve thousand. Thus the total number of verses in all the Purāṇas is four hundred thousand. Eighteen thousand of these, once again, belong to the beautiful Bhāgavatam.

Brahmānanda: In Time magazine they say that by the time the child is fifteen years old he will have seen eleven thousand murders on television.
Jayatīrtha: In Detroit one out of every thousand people gets murdered every year.
Prabhupāda: Huh?
Jayatīrtha: In Detroit—that's the biggest crime city in America—one out of every thousand people gets murdered every year. If you live there for fifty years, you have one chance in twenty of being murdered. (break)
Prabhupāda: Prosperous. The business is slaughterhouse. All butchers. (laughs)

Prabhupāda: No. We must have quality. Our Godbrothers, they publish tenth-quality papers. Nobody... Nobody cares.
Gopāla Kṛṣṇa: In Madras we are printing a big Tamil Īśopaniṣad, and one Sindi man, he has donated eight thousand towards the cost. The total cost is eleven thousand, and he has donated about eight thousand. If we can get this... One way we can reduce our cost is by getting advertisements.
Prabhupāda: No, no.
Gopāla Kṛṣṇa: But that you wish not to do. You'd rather...
Brahmānanda: Just like this other man has agreed to subsidize the Arabic book?

Guru-kṛpā: Prabhupāda, we just got here.... Now we've just gotten one farm, two hundred acres. We're purchasing this next week. For eleven thousand dollars, two hundred acres.
Prabhupāda: Very cheap.
Guru-kṛpā: And it is up north. It is just like India, very hot, and you can grow everything. Hot all year round.
Prabhupāda: So grow fruits, flowers, grains. Keep some men. It is very nice. (break) ...stones(?), they can go.
Guru-kṛpā: Yes. They're aren't very attracted to it.
Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa: A little over fifty dollars an acre? Very reasonable.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: That place is not too high altitude? Someone told us that he was in Kashmir at eleven thousand feet altitude. That boy who was driving us today, he was there last year.
Prabhupāda: That is crossing. But...
Bhavānanda: The valleys.
Prabhupāda: ...the real Kashmir is the valleys. Five thousand.
Bhavānanda: Gargamuni says in those valleys it is very hot.

Bhavānanda: He was either in Kashmir or right next to it, same area, Sivagudhi, Simla or someplace.

Prabhupāda: Hm?
Girirāja: I met one young man, and he may donate for one of the rooms fifty thousand. Otherwise he'll donate for some..., either twenty-five thousand or, minimum, eleven thousand. Then a lot of people wanted to arrange our speaking engagements at Rotary Club, Lions Club and different associations, so we're arranging towards the end of May to go back again and have a..., maybe a week, every night, different program.
Prabhupāda: Very good. Poona is not far away.
Girirāja: Oh, no. It's two or three hours.
Prabhupāda: By train. So it is nice place, educated.
Visit From Allopathic Doctor -- October 10, 1977, Vrndavana:
Prabhupāda: Healthy... I have nothing to do with this body. Have to do with your work. All right. (devotees offer obeisances) (break)
Bhagavān: All the devotees want to give you a nice offering. So in three days, so far they have done almost eleven thousand big books. Marathon will end on Wednesday night, and they hope to do over twenty-thousand big books in one week. We have about seventy-five devotees out distributing fourteen hours every day. They were thinking this was suitable offering for Your Divine Grace. Also in Italy they are doing almost 3,500 big books every week now.

Doctor Visit and Conversation -- October 20, 1977, Vrndavana:
Hari-śauri: I was in Delhi yesterday, and I spoke to one of the temple presidents in Australia, and he gave me a very encouraging report. He said that all the Indian Gītās that we got just recently from Gopāla Kṛṣṇa, now they've almost completely finished. Over eleven thousand they've distributed in just a few weeks.
Prabhupāda: Hm!
Hari-śauri: That's very good. Since you've been here in Vṛndāvana, I sent them a telegram that now they have to distribute more books so that Lord Kṛṣṇa will be pleased and allow you to stay with us. So they've doubled up since then. Now they're almost run out, they've distributed so many. (break) He said that up on the farm also things are going very nicely. Many, many people are coming now to see how we are living. And for Govardhana Pūjā they are planning a two-day festival. They're expecting to get many hundreds of people coming. Your farm is already very well known now up in that area, and people are becoming very interested to see what we have to offer. In the immediate district where our farm is, many people have tried to start communes—these hippies and people like this. But they've never been successful because they've never had any central point to agree on. Everybody's simply gone their..., lived their own way.
