- A devotee is one who has no other motive for reciting Bhagavad-gita & Srimad-Bhagavatam than to serve the Lord. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has therefore advised us to hear the glories of the Lord from a realized person - bhagavata paro diya bhagavata sthane
- A professional man who makes a business out of reciting the Bhagavatam illegally is certainly not a representative of Sukadeva Gosvami. Such a man's business is only to earn his livelihood
- A qualified reciter of Srimad-Bhagavatam gives the right medicine for the conditioned souls. The Krsna consciousness movement is therefore trying to train qualified preachers to recite Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita throughout the entire world

- Before reciting this SB, which is the very means of conquest, one should offer respectful obeisances unto the P. of God Narayana, Nara-narayana Rsi the supermost human being, mother Sarasvati the goddess of learning and unto Srila Vyasadeva the author
- Bhagavata recitation must not be a business. If done in the right way, not only does the reciter achieve perfect satisfaction, but the Lord also is very satisfied with the reciter and the audience, and thus both are liberated from material bondage
- Born in approximately 1425 Sakabda (A.D. 1503), he (Raghunatha Bhatta Gosvami) was expert in reciting Srimad-Bhagavatam, and in Antya-lila, Chapter Thirteen (of CC), it is stated that he was also expert in cooking; whatever he cooked would be nectarean

- He (Sanatana Goswami) has strictly forbidden. Those who are not Vaisnavas, professional, for money's sake they recite Bhagavata, any, anything. They want money

- In India there is a class, they are professional Bhagavata reciters. They make contract that he shall recite Srimad-Bhagavatam, finish within a week, and he should be rewarded. These things are not recommended in the authoritative scriptures
- In Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s final pastimes, Ramananda Raya and Svarupa Damodara always engaged in reciting suitable verses from Srimad-Bhagavatam and other books to pacify the Lord’s ecstatic feelings of separation from Krsna

- Maharaja Pariksit attained salvation by hearing only, and Sukadeva Gosvami attained salvation only by reciting
- Maharaja Pariksit attained the highest perfection, shelter at Lord Krsna's lotus feet, simply by hearing about Lord Visnu. Sukadeva Gosvami attained perfection simply by reciting SB. Prahlada Maharaja attained perfection by remembering the Lord
- Many Mayavadis have recently begun reciting SB in Vrndavana, and because they can present the SB with word jugglery, twisting the meaning by grammatical tricks, materialistic persons who go to Vrndavana as a matter of spiritual fashion like to hear them

- One cannot learn Bhagavatam from a bogus hired reciter whose aim of life is to earn some money out of such recitation and employ the earning in sex indulgence
- One has to understand Srimad-Bhagavatam through the process of devotional service and by hearing the recitation of a pure devotee. These are the injunctions of the Vedic literature - sruti and smrti
- One should avoid those who simply dress as Vaisnavas or so-called gosvamis, and those who make a business by selling Vedic mantras and reciting Srimad-Bhagavatam to maintain their families
- One should not try to read too many books, nor should one develop the idea of earning his livelihood by lecturing on or professionally reciting Srimad-Bhagavatam or Bhagavad-gita
- One should not try to understand SB from materialistic people. According to the Vedic injunctions, yasya deve para bhaktih. The SB can be recited only by one who has unflinching faith in the lotus feet of Krsna and His devotee, the spiritual master

- People are accustomed to being misled by professional Bhagavatam reciters. Therefore Svarupa Damodara Gosvami herein (CC Antya 5.131) advises that one should not hear Srimad-Bhagavatam from professional reciters
- Professional men recite Srimad-Bhagavatam and discuss krsna-bhakti for an exchange of money. They cannot distribute such exalted transcendental property to everyone and anyone

- Ramananda Raya recited verses from Srimad-Bhagavatam, and Svarupa Damodara Gosvami sang of Krsna's pastimes. In this way, they brought Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to external consciousness
- Recitation and hearing (of the Srimad-Bhagavatam) are two processes out of nine devotional activities, and by strenuously following the principles, either in all or by parts, one can attain the absolute plane

- Sukadeva Gosvami is compared to the parrot not for his ability to recite the Bhagavatam exactly as he heard it from his learned father, but for his ability to present the work in a manner that would appeal to all classes of men
- Sukadeva Gosvami recited 1,400,000 verses of the Mahabharata in the councils of the Gandharvas, Yaksas and Raksasas, and he recited Srimad-Bhagavatam for the first time in the presence of Maharaja Pariksit
- Sukadeva was the greatest of all Bhagavata reciters, and thus he began to speak about Krsna's pastimes, which destroy all inauspiciousness in this Age of Kali

- That very SB I (Sukadeva) shall recite before you because you are the most sincere devotee of Lord Krsna. One who gives full attention and respect to hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam achieves unflinching faith in the Supreme Lord, the giver of salvation
- The cheap reciters of the Bhagavatam are very much enthusiastic about the Lord's internal potential activities, and the pseudodevotees, absorbed in material sense enjoyment, falsely jump to the stage of liberated souls and thus fall down
- The conclusion is that those who are still entrapped by sex indulgence should never progress to meditation above the feet of the Lord; recital of Srimad-Bhagavatam by them should be restricted to the First and Second Cantos of the great literature
- The example cited here (SB 2.5.11) of the sun is very appropriate. In the material world the sun is the cause of all illumination: fire, electricity, the rays of the moon, etc
- The following verse (CC Madhya 8.76) is cited from Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 10.8.46), wherein Maharaja Pariksit voices his appreciation of Nanda Maharaja’s and mother Yasoda’s intense love for Krsna

- Then Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu recited some verses from Srimad-Bhagavatam and explained them vividly, thus enjoying the taste of transcendental sweetness with great happiness
- There are many good reciters of Vedic literatures, and they recite works such as the Ramayana, Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita. Sometimes these professional readers manifest very good scholarship and exhibit word jugglery
- There are many, many very artistic Bhagavata reciter, but they could not turn even one man to Krsna consciousness, because they are not self-realized, svanubhavam
- There is a sort of imitation of this reciting and hearing of Srimad-Bhagavatam by professional men, and their foolish audience thinks that they will get free from the clutches of material attachment and attain the life of fearlessness
- There is now a system of Bhagavata business, with recitations called bhagavata-saptaha that continue for one week, although this is not mentioned in SB. Nowhere does SB say that the Bhagavatam should be heard for one week from professionals
- There was none so attentive as Maharaja Pariksit in the matter of hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam, and there was none so qualified as Sukadeva Gosvami to recite the text of Srimad-Bhagavatam
- These professional Bhagavata means they immediately begin to recite rasa-lila. Bhagavata reading dissertation means rasa-lila. And people take in a different way, that Krsna was woman-hunter
- They (materialistic persons) may also professionally recite the Bhagavatam or other scriptures, worship the Deity in the temple and initiate disciples
- They (pure devotees) should regularly chant the Hare Krsna maha-mantra on their beads, follow the devotional process, rise early in the morning, attend mangala-arati and recite Srimad-Bhagavatam and the Bhagavad-gita regularly
- This highest stage of relationship with the Lord can be attained simply by hearing about Him (His name, form, quality, etc.) from authentic sources like Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, recited by pure, unalloyed devotees of the Lord
- This passage (of CC Adi 8.19) is a quotation from Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 5.6.18). While Sukadeva Gosvami was describing the character of Rsabhadeva, he distinguished between bhakti-yoga and liberation by reciting this verse
- This verse (of SB 10.1.4) indicates that such recitation of Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam must be done by persons completely freed from material desires - nivrtta-tarsaih

- Understanding the ecstatic emotions of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Svarupa Damodara, in a sweet voice, recited the following verse from Srimad-Bhagavatam
- Unless this situation is created (bona fide speaker and audience), Bhagavatam recitation for extraneous purposes is useless labor both for the speaker and for the audience
