Assembled devotees

Sri Caitanya-caritamrta

CC Madhya-lila

CC Madhya 11.131, Translation:

Since the residence of Kāśī Miśra was insufficient, all the assembled devotees were very much overcrowded.

CC Antya-lila

CC Antya 11 Summary:

The summary of this chapter is given by Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura in his Amṛta-pravāha-bhāṣya as follows. In this chapter it is described how Brahmā Haridāsa Ṭhākura gave up his body with the consent of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, and how the Lord Himself personally performed the funeral ceremony and carried the body to the sea. He personally entombed the body, covered it with sand and erected a platform on the site. After taking a bath in the sea, He personally begged prasādam of Jagannātha from shopkeepers and distributed prasādam to the assembled devotees.

CC Antya 12.8, Translation:

Headed by Śivānanda Sena, Advaita Ācārya and others, all the devotees assembled in Navadvīpa.

Lectures

Bhagavad-gita As It Is Lectures

Lecture on BG 2.48-49 -- New York, April 1, 1966:

All glories to the assembled devotees. All glories to the assembled devotees. Now, spiritual consciousness, and to continue it... Simple theoretical knowledge that "I am consciousness; I am not this body," anything, simple theoretical knowledge, cannot help us. (aside:) You can put on this light. Unless... Just like a person. He studied medical science or law, anything, any technical science. He gets all theoretical knowledge. But if he does not practice, then that knowledge will gradually subside. You see? Similarly, that "I am not this body, but I am that pure consciousness," that is already analyzed in various ways. Now, we are in practical life. Now, if we say that "I am not this body," so what is the use of working for this body? The whole world is moving under the bodily conception of life. Because I am born in this land, my body is born out of this land, American land, therefore I am thinking "American." Because I am born in India, therefore I am thinking "Indian." Because I am born of a certain family, therefore I am identifying myself with that family. Because my father has given me some name, so I am identifying with that name. So my position is that I am all around surrounded by this bodily conception of life.

Lecture on BG 3.17-20 -- New York, May 27, 1966:

All glories to the assembled devotees. All glories to the assembled devotees. Thank you very much.

yas tv ātma-ratir eva syād
ātma-tṛptaś ca mānavaḥ
ātmany eva ca santuṣṭas
tasya kāryaṁ na vidyate
(BG 3.17)

Now, so far yajña, offering sacrifice for the satisfaction of the Supreme Lord, as we were discussing for the last few days, now here, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa says that for a person who is already situated in the spiritual platform and is satisfied with his own self, he hasn't got to do anything. He has surpassed that stages of offering sacrifice, worship, prayers, everything—one who is situated in self-satisfied state.

Lecture on BG 3.18-30 -- Los Angeles, December 30, 1968:

Prabhupāda: All glories to the assembled devotees.

Devotees: Jaya! Haribol!

Prabhupāda: Who is reading? Go on. Purport. Yes. Ninety-eight. Oh, yes.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: This is chapter entitled Karma-yoga.

Prabhupāda: Yes yes, go on. Go on reading.

Lecture on BG 3.21-25 -- New York, May 30, 1966:

All glories to the assembled devotees. All glories to the assembled devotees.

Yaj-jihvāgre nāma tubhyam. Aho bata śva-paco 'to garīyān yaj-jihvāgre nāma tubhyam: "A person, whatever he may be, even he is very low born, but if he utters the holy name of God by his tongue, he becomes the glorious person." Śva-pacaḥ ataḥ. Śva-paca. Śva means dog, and pacaḥ... Pacaḥ means one who eats dogs. In India the dog-eaters are considered to be the lowest class of men, dog-eaters. So śva-pacaḥ. śva-pacaḥ means the dog-eaters. So even the dog-eaters, even if he is a dog-eater, it doesn't matter. If he can chant the holy name of Lord, then he becomes glorious. Aho bata śva-paco 'to garīyān yaj-jihvāgre nāma tubhyam. So this Hare Kṛṣṇa chanting is glorious, and anyone who chants this, he becomes glorious.

Lecture on BG 6.6-12 -- Los Angeles, February 15, 1969:

Prabhupāda: All glories to the assembled devotees.

Devotees: All glories to you Prabhupāda.

Devotee: "For him who has conquered his mind, it is the best of friends. But one who has failed to do so, his very mind will be the greatest enemy (BG 6.6)."

Prabhupāda: Yes. This mind, they're talking of the mind. The whole yoga system means to make the mind our friend. The mind in material contact, just like a person in drunkard condition. His mind is... There is a nice verse in Caitanya-caritāmṛta.

Arrival Addresses and Talks

Arrival Address -- Los Angeles, June 20, 1975:

Prabhupāda: (leads Prema-dhvanī) ...Gaṅgā-mayī ki jaya. New Dvārakā dhāma ki jaya. New Dvārakā dhāma ki jaya. Samavetā bhakta-vṛnda ki jaya. All glories to the assembled devotees, all glories to the assembled devotees, all glories to the assembled devotees. Thank you very much. (devotees offer obeisances)

So I shall go now? Speaking something? Our speaking is the same, harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam (CC Adi 17.21).

Devotees: Haribol! Prabhupāda!

Prabhupāda: We have no new discovery. We don't manufacture. This is our process. We simply follow the predecessor's instruction. That's all. Our movement is very easy because we haven't got to manufacture something. We simply repeat the words and the instruction given by the predecessor. Kṛṣṇa instructed Brahmā, Brahmā instructed Nārada, Nārada instructed Vyāsadeva, Vyāsadeva instructed Madhvācārya, and, in this way, then Mādhavendra Purī, Īśvara Purī, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, then the Six Gosvāmīs, then the Śrīnivāsa Ācārya, Kavirāja Gosvāmī, Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura, Viśvanātha Cakravartī, Jagannātha dāsa Bābājī, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, Gaurakiśora dāsa Bābājī, Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī, and then we are doing the same thing. There is no difference. That is the specific procedure of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement.

Initiation Lectures

Initiation Lecture and Ceremony -- New Vrindaban, September 4, 1972:

Devotee: Hare Kṛṣṇa. Monday, September Fourth, 1972, new temple room in Bahulaban, New Vrindaban, 7PM.

Prabhupāda: So, "All glories to the assembled devotees" means "including the children." Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is so nice that even children without any knowledge of Vedānta—and big, big philosopher—simply by attending the performance of devotional service even a child's mind can be glorious—without an education. That is...We are explaining in this statement of Sūta Gosvāmī: ahaituky apratiyatā. Apratiyatā means "it cannot change anymore." It doesn't matter what he is. He may be a grown-up man or a small child. He may be educated, noneducated; civilized or uncivilized; even man or animal. Everyone can take part in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Bhakti-yoga. This word is very important, that, ahaituky apratiyatā. Apratiyatā means "without any (indistinct)." Because, this Kṛṣṇa consciousness is meant for the soul, not for the body. So far body is concerned, that is according to your past karma, it is destined. Sukham aindriyakaṁ daityā deha-yogena dehinām. Prahlāda Mahārāja says, that here in this material world we are after sense pleasure—everyone—birds, beasts, animals, aquatics, human beings, even the demigods—anyone who is within this material world, he is concerned with the gratification of the senses in different degree. But the aim is sense gratification. Therefore, we are given by the laws of nature—not, nature is not independent—by the superior order of the Supreme Personality of Godhead... Supreme Personality of Godhead as Paramātmā is sitting in everyone's heart: īśvaraḥ sarva-bhutānāṁ hṛd-deśe (BG 18.61).

Conversations and Morning Walks

1968 Conversations and Morning Walks

Room Conversation -- July 16, 1968, Montreal:

Prabhupāda: It is not... It is more difficult.(?) (Prabhupāda is taking prasādam) (pause) Is there anything about Kṛṣṇa in Vivekananda's speech?

Pradyumna: I wasn't reading his speeches. I wanted to see how he worked things. I know he's a rascal.

Prabhupāda: So you can give me a little milk and finish business. (pause) (devotees offer obeisances) All glories to the assembled devotees.

Devotees: All glories to Guru and Gaurāṅga!

Prabhupāda: Yes. All glories to you because you are interested in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Certainly it is glorious. Greatest science. Please try to understand it very nicely. You will be all happy. That is my request.

Devotee: Is this picture of He who is considered(?) Kṛṣṇa in the pine tree?

Prabhupāda: What is this? Some imagination. Some imagination. All cheating. (end)

1973 Conversations and Morning Walks

Morning Walk -- December 10, 1973, Los Angeles:

Svarūpa Dāmodara: When Śrīla Prabhupāda goes, we are going to miss this morning walk.

Prabhupāda: Eh? Eh?

Svarūpa Dāmodara: We are going to miss this morning...

Prabhupāda: No, you remember, you manipulate, you expand it. That is your business.

Hṛdayānanda: Boy, they're so enlightening.

Devotees: All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda! All glories to Prabhupāda.

Prabhupāda: Hare Kṛṣṇa. Jaya. All glories to the assembled devotees. (end)

1977 Conversations and Morning Walks

So do it. Do it.
Room Conversation -- October 22, 1977, Vrndavana:

Bhavānanda: Everything comes to life when you come to Māyāpura. You are the crown jewel. Māyāpura is such beautiful setting, but without Your Divine Grace's presence, we are always feeling empty-hearted. And as soon as you come, all of us are enlivened.

Prabhupāda: So let us go in a team.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: I think we may have enough devotees to fill the whole train.

Bhavānanda: By looking at all the devotees assembled here, Śrīla Prabhupāda, the looks on their faces indicate that everyone likes this idea.

Prabhupāda: So do it. Do it.

Gopāla Kṛṣṇa: It's a good idea.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: So shall we perform some kīrtana, Śrīla Prabhupāda? Haṁsadūta Swami is here.

Prabhupāda: Jaya.

Correspondence

1970 Correspondence

Letter to Cidananda -- Los Angeles 30 January, 1970:

In my book fund, not only my disciples are contributing, but also others who are outsiders like Mr. George Harrison who has contributed the entire cost of publishing my book Krishna—the cost will be $19,000. Now we have got our press and we propose to publish many books. Also, attempt is being made in Hamburg for translating all our literatures into French and German languages and to publish them regularly.

So with increase of our activities by Sankirtana Movement if possible, try to save some money for my book fund.

Please offer my blessings to Ananda, Rudra das, Ravindra das and our new friend, Mr. John.

All glories to the Assembled devotees

Be happy and chant Hare Krishna Mantra.

Your ever well-wisher,

My dear boys and girls, you are working so hard for broadcasting the glories of Lord Krishna's lotus feet and thus my Guru Maharaja will be so pleased upon you. Certainly my Guru Maharaja will bestow His blessings thousand times more than me and that is my satisfaction. All Glories to the assembled devotees.

N.B. Every one should go with the Sankirtana Party as soon as possible.

1975 Correspondence

Letter to Tamala Krsna -- Honolulu 31 January, 1975:

I am in due receipt of your letter dated Jan. 16th, 1975 and have noted the contents. Your report is very very encouraging. It means really preaching Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's message. Do that and be blessed. Krishna has given you a special duty, so carry it very faithfully and enthusiastically. The more you preach, the more you become recognized by Krishna and the more He gives you intelligence how to preach. You are a good representative of Radha Damodara. You are very fortunate that Radha Damodara is traveling with you and giving strength and intelligence. All glories to the assembled devotees.

1976 Correspondence

Letter to Sons and Daughters -- Melbourne 23 April, 1976:

The Assembled Devotees

Australian Yatra

My dear sons and daughters,

Please accept my blessings. I am very grateful for all your offerings of daksina to your spiritual master. This is the system. Now all of you must very sincerely follow the regulative principles. Four don'ts and one do: No illicit sex-life, no intoxication, no gambling, no meat-eating . . . and always chanting Hare Krishna, minimum 16 rounds daily. If you take very seriously these principles then Krishna will bless you without any doubt.

I hope that this meets you all in good health.

Your ever well-wisher,

A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
